This is my story. It might be yours too.

Before I became a VA,

I was working as a service crew at McDonald’s

Nag-aabot ng fries, ngumingiti kahit pagod,

habang sinusubukang tapusin ang college.

4 years akong ganon.

Nung nabawasan na ang subjects ko sa college

“Siguro BPO na ang next.”

Mas malaki naman ang kita, oo.

At mas okay na ‘yon kaysa sa wala.

Pero dumating ang pandemic.

Biglang nagsara ang kumpanya.

Na-layoff ako.

Wala akong ipon.

Walang fallback.

At lalong wala akong idea kung anong gagawin ko.

Saka ko nadiscover ang Virtual Assistance.

Hindi ko alam kung ano ‘yon.

Pero dahil kailangan, sinubukan ko.

Nag-apply ako.

Old resume. Walang specific skills. Walang niche.

Walang nagtuturo. Walang gabay.

At syempre, rejected.

Maraming beses.

Umiyak ako.

Nag-doubt ako.

Sobrang dami ng pagkakataong gusto ko na lang sumuko.

Pero gabi-gabi, kahit pagod,

Umuupo ako sa harap ng lumang computer.

Nanonood ng tutorials.

Nag-aaral mag-isa.

Nag-rewrite ng profile.

Araw-araw,

paulit-ulit.

Hindi siya madali.

Hindi siya mabilis.

Pero little by little,

nagbago ang takbo

ng buhay ko.

Ngayon, nakakatrabaho na ako kahit nasaan ako.

I already have my own space.

Nakakatulong na ako sa pamilya ko.

At higit sa lahat — nakakatulong na rin ako sa iba.
